Kambo 101
It’s crucial to be well-prepared both mentally and physically prior to your first Kambo session. It is a new paradigm of healing and understandable that it could bring on some nervousness but rest assured, it’s very likely that your Kambo session is going to go smoothly and just days beyond that, you’ll be feeling ready to conquer the world.
Here’s a list of things to consider prior to booking your first session and how to prepare once you are scheduled.
Educate yourself about what Kambo is and how it works.
Kambo is a traditional Amazonian medicine made from the peptide secretions of the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog. It's known for its potent healing properties and has been used for centuries by indigenous tribes for various purposes like issues with auto-immunity, anxiety, depression, PTSD, Lyme Disease, sports injuries and more. The peptide secretion is administered through superficial burns (gates) in the skin using a flamed incense stick.
Peptides are signaling agents for our cells which means once Kambo is administered, the individual peptides are scavenging the body for cells not operating optimally. Because their molecular structure can be similar to that of hormones or messaging agents, they’re able to engage and activate several receptors throughout the body, influencing and inducing a variety of bodily processes.
The Kambo secretion contains 12 known peptides, all of which the human body has cell receptors for.
Before booking a Kambo session, we’ll need to assess your current health status for any contraindications or risks.
While Kambo can, and usually does offer numerous benefits, it's important to ensure that you don't have any underlying medical conditions. Feel free to read through the required waiver for any contraindications around health conditions, substances or medications.
Leading up to your Kambo session, there are several preparation steps you may need to take.
This generally includes abstaining from alcohol or certain medications, and staying hydrated. Your Kambo practitioner should provide a specific list of preparation steps prior to a session.
Familiarize yourself with the environment where the Kambo session will take place, whether at your home or elsewhere.
It's essential to feel comfortable and relaxed during the experience. Ensure that the space is clean, safe, and there is a restroom nearby in the event it’s needed mid-session. It’s not common that people have to use the restroom to clear bowels, but it does happen from time to time.
Understand the duration of the Kambo session.
Typically, a session can last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, depending on various factors such as individual response and the number of points administered.
Be aware of the potential effects of Kambo.
Kambo is known to induce strong physical reactions, including flushing, vomiting, sweating, and diarrhea. These effects are part of the detoxification process and are considered normal but it’s essential to be mentally prepared for these experiences.
Understand the importance of post-session care.
After a Kambo session, your body will likely need time to rest and recover. Stay hydrated, eat nutrient dense foods, and allow yourself plenty of rest. Your practitioner may also provide specific aftercare instructions tailored to your needs.
Finally, be prepared to integrate the experience into your life.
Some practitioners offer integration as a separate service as it’s important to reflect on the insights gained during the Kambo session and consider how you can apply them to your daily life. Kambo can offer profound healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels, so take the time to honor and integrate the experience fully.
